Testers: Stop Acting like Second-Class Citizens!
Description
This talk is inspired both by my own personal experience and by observing how many testers view and describe themselves and the work that they do. Too often they either use terms like "manual testing" that have strong negative connotations (e.g. menial, unskilled), or go overboard in the other direction with fancy terms and titles (e.g. "Quality Engineer") that can cause confusion or conflict if they don't have a firm grasp on how to describe the value they actually provide. Likewise, I believe too many testers settle for substandard tools--in my opinion most of the test tools on the market today would not be tolerated by the average developer.
My goal is for this to be an inspirational talk that leaves attendees energized to return to their day jobs with tools to advocate for themselves and their skills.
